As Saturday night turned into Sunday morning, shortly after the official start of summer, there was a ruckus in the parking lot between “Bar Maven” and “Bodega PDX” in the 6200 block of S.E. Foster Road. A man was stabbed and fell to the pavement – and another man ran off.
The East Precinct officers who were dispatched to the incident at 12:26 a.m. found an adult male dead at the scene.
The victim of the murder was soon identified as 21-year-old Miguel A. Alvarez-Flores of Hillsboro. “The suspect or suspects left before police arrived, and no immediate arrests were made,” PPB officials stated at the time. But that didn’t mean they weren’t searching.

The PPB’s Homicide Unit arrived to investigate. From witnesses and people in the area, Homicide Detectives developed what they considered to be substantial suspect information.
And, in July, the PPB Homicide Detectives – with assistance from the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) – arrested 40-year-old David Nathanielwe Marson for the fatal stabbing. Marson was taken to Multnomah County Detention Center where he was booked in on July 2 at 12:59 a.m. on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
At his arraignment, Marson learned that, in addition to the murder charge, he’d be facing seven counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – a Class C Felony. Currently Marson is being held without bail at Inverness Jail.
