Record number of Marathon runners pass thru Inner Southeast

- Along S.E. Milwaukie Avenue, next to Brooklyn Park, these runners are heading back to downtown Portland to complete their Portland Marathon experience.
More than 9,000 registered runners sprinted, jogged, and walked their way over the Sellwood Bridge, and on multiple routes through Inner Southeast neighborhoods in the running of the 52nd annual Portland Marathon on Sunday morning, October 6. Organizers said it was the largest turnout in the event’s history.

A few residents living along the designated route didn’t heed the signs posted every few yards – were surprised to find that their vehicle had been towed. But, only to the next block. However most residents took the inconvenience of all the closed-off streets in stride.
From where participants entered Southeast Portland at the Sellwood Bridge, then north to Brooklyn, “cheer teams” were set up to encourage the passing athletes. By early afternoon, the Marathon was over, barricades were removed, and life returned to normal.
As for the official outcomes, the overall winner for the men was Archibald Castell, with a time of 2:22:14. The overall winner for the women was Rachel Peters, with a time of 2:48:21. For the half-marathon, the overall winner for the men was Noah Rasmussen, with a time of 1:05:55; and the overall winner for the women in the half-marathon was Kyla Rose, with a time of 1:09:12.
