Near where the pedestrian was found dead in the southbound lanes of McLoughlin Boulevard -- near Center Street, in the Brooklyn neighborhood – two PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team officers discussed evidence about how the fatal crash apparently happened.

Drivers northbound on McLoughlin Bouleard in Thursday morning rush hour traffic, on November 14, slowed to get a glimpse of Central Precinct officers investigating a fatal collision between a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and pedestrian in the southbound lanes, which were closed down as soon as the accident was reported.

The PPB Central Precinct officers who were first dispatched to the crash at 6:13 a.m. – just before dawn – first looked for a victim in the southbound lanes of McLoughlin Boulevard near Cora Street. At that location – near main gates of the now-closed Ross Island Sand & Gravel plant – officers located the truck involved, but not the victim.

However, two blocks north, officers found the dead adult male pedestrian near the northern gates of Ross Island Sand & Gravel, across the highway from S.E. Center Street.

The involved driver remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.

The driver looked despondent as he sat on the running board of his pickup truck and spoke with PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team investigators. The cabin of the truck was filled with deployed airbags.

By early afternoon, S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard – State Highway 99-E — had reopened to traffic. At last report, no citations had been issued, and the victim had not yet been publicly identified.
