The New Seasons Market in Sellwood has become the 11th location to unionize after workers voted 52-28 in favor of joining the New Seasons Labor Union.

In the mid-December vote, 65% supported joining the union.

Locations in north and northeast Portland also voted to unionize in the past month, packing more wins into a productive year for the union.

More than half of the Portland-area locations of the high-end grocery store have unionized since mid-2022.

The New Seasons Labor Union now represents more than 1,000 workers across 11 locations. The Sellwood location has 86 union members.

A group of workers at the Sellwood location tried to unionize in September 2022, but the vote failed with 29 votes for and 33 against.

“Organizers in the store say positive union sentiment at the store has grown since then, as NSLU has more firmly established itself,” the New Seasons Labor Union stated in a November press release announcing plans for a new election.

Even with 65% support, the Sellwood vote found less support than other recent wins for the New Seasons Labor Union. The Williams location unionized with 87% support, while the University Park location on Lombard unionized with 81% support.
