DUII charged in crash with critical injuries on Division Street

The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team arrested 25-year-old Luis Enrique Guzman for a crash on Sunday morning, August 26, at S.E. Division and 96th Avenue.

Based on the initial investigation, members of the Major Crash Team believe Guzman Espinoza, the driver of a black Suzuki four door sedan, was driving east on Southeast Division, and hit green Honda CRV that was traveling north up the ramp from northbound Interstate 205 to Division Street. Investigators believe the crash involved failure to stop for a red light.
The adult female driver of the Honda CRV suffered serious life-threatening injuries, and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance, where she continues to receive treatment for her injuries.
Guzman, the driver of the Suzuki, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and was then taken into custody once he received treatment at the hospital and was released from medical care.
Investigators report that intoxication and speed were factors in this crash.
Guzman Espinoza was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering.
