- Charles 'Charlie' Metler, who lived on Holgate Boulevard near S.E. Milwaukie Avenue. He perished in a fall while trying to scale a wall to jump into the Clackamas River near Gladstone on July 17th.
When Charlie Metler headed out for a day of fun on the Clackamas River on July 17, he didn’t suspect that this day would be his last.

The 24-year-old man’s last registered address was at the Brooklyn neighborhood apartments on S.E. Holgate Boulevard, a half block east of S.E. Milwaukie Avenue.
Melter was hanging out, his friends said, and was swimming in the river to Billy Goat Island, located near Gladstone.
His buddies also told authorities that, earlier in the day, he’d successfully climbed a wall of the South Fork Water District Pump Station, “for the purpose of jumping into the Clackamas River from the higher elevation,” as Oregon City Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Bill Kler put it.
But, as the sun set, they claimed they didn’t see Melter climb the wall for one last jump into the river. He didn’t have the opportunity to jump, Kler said — he fell to his death on the rocks below.
“No foul play is suspected,” Kler reported, “and we have no information to suggest drugs or alcohol were a factor, either.”
