How will Johnson Creek be hit by MAX “Tacoma Park & Ride”?

The Johnson Creek Watershed Council (JCWC) hosted a “charette” on Thursday, June 3rd, at their offices near the Sellwood-Milwaukie border near Milport Street. (A charette is a meeting that leads a group of people through a short, focused study.)

The well-attended session focused on integrating wildlife habitat, sustainable stormwater management, and environmental education features, into the design of the proposed Tacoma Street light rail station.

“The Tacoma station will be located just south of Johnson Creek,” pointed out Matt Clark, JCWC’s Executive Director. “This will provide a unique opportunity to feature and enhance the hydrology and ecology of Johnson Creek.”

After introductions, the group was given an introduction to the proposed design of the Tacoma Street Station by Harriet Cherry, representing PIVOT Architecture. With the help of computer graphics, attendees could examine the proposed structure and site from all angles and elevations.

Instead of debating issues surrounding the MAX station, facilitators asked participants to freely give ideas and opinions about what they’d like to see included at this location.

After the general discussion, the assembly broke up into small workgroups in different rooms throughout the building to look at graphics and make notes.

The results of the charette were then given to TriMet and City planners.
